The Future of the Global Church

This week, representatives from Global Advance’s team had the special opportunity to listen to missiologist Patrick Johnstone. You might have heard of Mr. Johnstone; he is well known for writing the first Operation World almost 60 years ago. This phenomenal book has documented the state of Christianity around the world, and has provided helpful insight for Christians to pray for the nations. Mr. Johnstone lectured on the Future of the Global Church. After an hour of incredible research and statistics, our team left very encouraged.

Global Advance is still on the cutting edge of missions! Very few organizations are training leaders in some of the most difficult areas of the world. We hear of leadership training events almost every week in the USA. Although Global Advance offers leadership training at our events in some 35+ nations each year; our focus has always been to challenge Christian leaders to use their influence to advance the Gospel. For some of our attendees this means planting churches, for some this means going as a missionary to a foreign land, and for some it means using their business to be a catalyst for evangelism and the spread of God’s work. Every person who attends a Global Advance event, leaves challenged to embrace the Great Commission and to do their part in seeing it completed.

There is a global shift of Christianity that has begun to take place around the world. Mr. Johnstone’s research supports what Global Advance has observed over the last 20 years. This is a shift from a Western-centric Christianity to a Southern and Eastern Christianity. The fact is, the Gospel is growing more rapidly in the East than it is in the West. In Southeast Asia, Christianity is growing at a staggering rate. These new believers are also starting to take responsibility in the Great Commission. There are more churches being planted in this region of the world than ever before. This is encouraging news, but it also presents a great challenge. Young Christians are working diligently to plant churches and multiply, yet still have a great lack of training. Over 90% of them have no formal training, and will never have the opportunity to received such training.

This month and next, Global Advance has a strong presence in India with 4 separate events in 4 different states. And later in May, we will return to Southeast Asia for training events in several more nations of which we cannot print. Several thousand leaders will be trained in Southeast Asia over the next few months – reinforcing what God is already doing. He indeed is preparing a global harvest, and we are grateful to serve His leaders that are on the frontlines.
